The Overseas Highway is the southern section of the U.S. Highway 1 in Florida. It connects 40 islands in the Florida Keys over a total of 205 kilometers and runs from Homestead via Key Largo and Marathon to Key West. As the only land connection between the Keys and the mainland, it is also the only escape route in the event of a hurricane.

The ruins of the Basilica Àgios Stéfanos are located not far from Kefalos on a small promontory directly on the beach of Kampos on the bay of Kéfalos. These are the remains of an early Christian basilica built between 496 and 554 AD. Compared to other late antique church remains on Kos, the one of Àgios Stéfanos is the best preserved.
High above the ruins of the deserted village of Palio Pyli lies the picturesque Taverna Oria on a hill, a perfect place to rest a little while exploring Palio Pyli and the castle. A relatively steep, well signposted path leads up to the tavern, but once you have made the climb you will be rewarded with a magnificent view. The Taverna Oria offers smaller dishes, a very good homemade lemonade, coffee and other drinks.

Antimachia Castle (also Fortress Antimachia, also Andimachia Castle, Greek Κάστρο Αντιμάχειας) is a medieval fortress on the Greek island of Kos, built by the Order of Saint John. It is located up on the hills above Kardamena and about 3 km east of the village Antimachia. The strategic position on a plateau above the bay of Kardamena allowed the control of the sea route between Kos and the island of Nisyros laying south and of the north-south connection in the interior of the island.
