Kefalos (Κέφαλος) is the westernmost town on the island of Kos, about 43 km from the island's capital Kos Town. The comparatively small village with about 2000 inhabitants is situated on the peninsula of Kefalos on a rocky hill above the bay of Kefalos. It is a place to see with some picturesque little streets, relatively untouched by mass tourism. Again and again, breathtaking views open down at the bay of Kefalos and the Kamari.
Around the main square are some shops, bars and cafes, coming up from the coast, you will find the ruins of the Knights of St. John of Kefalos a few hundred meters to the right. In ancient times the ancient capital Astypalaia was situated in the area of Kefalos, but later abandoned after several earthquakes and relocated to the site of today's city of Kos.
