Eleftherías Square (Freedom Square) is the center of the city of Kos. Today's square was created after the earthquake of April 23, 1933, during which a large part of the city center was destroyed. Accordingly some of the buildings have been built during the time of the Italian occupation with influence of Italian colonial style such as the Market Hall and the Archaeological Museum of Kos.
Restaurant Koako, furnished in modern, clean Greek style is situated not far away from Kos Harbour directly at the Promenade of Kos Town Close to the Marina. The Restaurant is known to be one of the best of Kos Town and offers extraordinary service and upscale cuisine. It is also quite frequented by locals which is, as always, a good indication for quality.
Mylos Beach Bar is situated right at the beach in Lambi just north of Kos Town. The beautiful location around an old windmill right on the beach, great food, good service and a nice ambience make the bar our favorite beach bar of Kos Island.
The market hall of Kos Town, built in 1934, is situated at Eleftherías Square, on the opposite side of the Archaeological Museum, between Eleftherías Square and Platia Agias Paraskevis. It was designed in the Italian colonial style with Arabic elements and today houses the Municipal Market of Kos. The market hall is smaller inside than it appears from the outside, but here you will find numerous stalls selling everything from spices, fresh fruits and vegetables such as watermelons or eggplant, but also sponges, honey, mussels or pickled tomatoes and carrots are offered.
Taverna Tsampala in Lampi near Kos town is our favorite restaurant on Kos Island. Although it looks rather unimpressive from the outside, it can score with excellent food, warmth and a long history. Whether Kleftiko, Stifado or fresh fish, every lover of Greek cuisine will find the right meal for him.
The Loggia Mosque is located opposite the Palazzo di Giustizia which was built during the Italian occupation on Platía Platanoú (Platane Square), near the Mandráki Port, between the northern exit of the excavations of the ancient Agorá and Neratzia Fortress. The mosque is referred to as Loggia mosque because of its beautiful column loggia, but its real name is Hadji Hassan Mosque, named after the Ottoman governor Gazi Hassan Pasha.
The port of Kos town with its beautiful harbor promenade is located in a picturesque bay. The harbor entrance is guarded by the old Fortress Neratzia. The Mandráki port is a central transport hub of Kos city, offering ferry connections to many islands of the Dodecanese and to Bodrum in Turkey. Also, city buses, and sightseeing tours stop or start in the harbor.
The Asklepieion of Kos is the most important archaeological site on the Greek island of Kos. The ancient sanctuary of Asclepius is located just 4 km southwest of Kos town on a wooded hill. Located on a slope about 100 meters above the sea, the Asklepieion was terraced and the individual levels connected by imposing staircases.

Embros-Therme (also Empros Therme) is a thermal hot spring on the Greek island of Kos. At this unique location hot, sulfur-smelling water flows from out of a small gap at the rocks by the beach. It is caught in a small rock-built basin and flows from there into the sea. In the water of the pool, which is 47°C to 50°C warm, you can take a bath with gas bubbles rising from the bottom of the pool.
