The market hall of Kos Town, built in 1934, is situated at Eleftherías Square, on the opposite side of the Archaeological Museum, between Eleftherías Square and Platia Agias Paraskevis. It was designed in the Italian colonial style with Arabic elements and today houses the Municipal Market of Kos. The market hall is smaller inside than it appears from the outside, but here you will find numerous stalls selling everything from spices, fresh fruits and vegetables such as watermelons or eggplant, but also sponges, honey, mussels or pickled tomatoes and carrots are offered.
In addition to all those specialties all sorts of souvenirs for tourists are offered, lots of which not only do not come from the island of Kos but often not even from Greece.
The purchased goods are, like in a supermarket, paid at a central cash register, but prices are much higher here than in shops in streets located a little bit further from the center.
