Plakat Forest is far away from the beaches and other tourist attractions of the island a bit off the main road from Kos Town to Kefalos. Numerous peacocks live here together with many cats in a pine forest. Although the Plaka Forest is no longer an insider tip is still worth a visit to once experience a different side of the island.
Plaka Forest is situated a bit hidden in the middle of the wild landscape around Antimachia, in addition to the wild peacocks and free-roaming cats there is also a chance of discovering one of the turtles living on the island. The peacocks are tame, they sometimes even eat from the hand, and so the visit to the Peacock Forest is a nice trips also for families with children. In Plaka forest it is pleasantly cool even in summer, and it is not too crowded during because visitors usually stay at most for one hour. If you want to stay longer you can use one of the existing tables for a picnic. On site you can donate for food for the animals.
