Kardamena, also Kardamaina, the only larger town at the south coast of Kos, was once a small fishing village and today is a more or less pure tourist destination focusing on simple package tourism. But with a bit of effort, there are also interesting corners to find as well as pleasant bars and restaurants in Kardamena. The harbor is also worth a look.
Kardamena is located on the spot or slightly east of the ancient Alasarna, but the place was probably not continuously populated. The excavations of Alasarna are located just west of today's Kardamena, on the hills above Kardamena the Fortress of Andimachia is watching over the bay.
