Wernigerode is a town with a wonderfully preserved old town and a state-approved resort in the district of Harz (Saxony-Anhalt), it also describes itself as The colorful town in the Harz Mountains. The town center consists largely of half-timbered houses.
Wernigerode remained largely undestroyed in the Second World War and is now one of the most beautiful half-timbered towns in Germany.
