The spa town of Bad Wurzach (until 1950 Wurzach) lies between the Allgäu and Upper Swabia on the edge of the Wurzacher Ried at an altitude of 650 to 800 meters and is the oldest bog spa in Baden-Württemberg. The place was first mentioned in 1273 as "Oppidum Wurzun". In 1333, Emperor Louis IV the Bavarian granted Hans, Truchsess of Waldburg the city rights for the city of "Wurzun”.
In 1936, spa operations were started in Bad Wurzach and in 1950 the town was given the title "Bad". Since 1996, numerous buildings and locations have been restored and renewed as part of the urban redevelopment. Today, numerous sights bear witness to the rich history of the city. The best-known sight is the Bad Wurzach Castle with its castle chapel. The Maria Rosengarten monastery with its house chapel in Rococo style, and the directly adjacent "Soul Chapel and the parish church of St. Verena are also well worth seeing.
