Zia is a mountain village on the Greek island of Kos with around 150 inhabitants. It is considered to be the highest inhabited place on the island. Zia is located in the Dikeos Mountains close to Palio Pyli and Pyli about 15 km from Kos Town. Today, its original beauty can only be seen if you step off the mass tourism trails.
Zia is one of the main tourist attractions of Kos, countless busloads of tourists are driven to the village every day, there are numerous taverns and tourist shops, basically everything in the place is designed exclusively for mass tourism. Nevertheless Zia is worth a visit, because if you step aside from the "tourist attractions" you can still see some of the charm of the mountain village, even if the really old and really beautiful houses are often left to decay.
One of the main attractions of the village is the magnificent view from a height of 300 meters over large parts of the island of Kos, the neighboring islands to the north and the neighboring Turkish mainland, especially at sunset. There are regular folkloric evenings for tourist groups. Zia is also the starting point of a marked hiking trail to the 846 m high peak of the Dikeos Mountains.
